Winner of the 2019 Dramatic Grand Jury Prize at Sundance and called a masterwork by critics, this film offers an Oscar-worthy performance by Alfre Woodward. She portrays a prison warden who has been drifting away from her husband while dutifully carrying out executions in a maximum security prison. When she strikes up a special bond with a death-row inmate, she is confronted with the complex and contradictory relationship between good intentions and what it means to be sanctioned to kill.
