Cassidy's parents write about ghosts and the paranormal, but do they really believe? Cassidy does. She almost drowned and was saved by Jacob, who is now her best friend. Only thing is...Jacob is a ghost. After her experience Cassidy can now see beyond the veil and is contacted by local ghosts. She photographs them, or attempts to. 

When her parents get a TV show and go to Edinburgh to film, Cassidy goes along with them. There she encounters more ghosts than ever before and not all of them are friendly. She also meets Lara who can also see ghosts and explains that they are supposed to help them move on. When Cassidy gains the attention of the malevolent Red Raven, it is Lara and Jacob who save her. 

This was a spooky ghost story filled with interesting historical tidbits about Scotland and Edinburgh. There was just enough tension to keep you interested but not too scary to turn away younger readers.
