Description
This audio-visual presentation examines how radio helped to give birth to the "Great America Songbook" by offering songs and singers a unique opportunity to present their songs to a national audience. The show uses both text and clips featuring some of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century as they were heard on the radio--including Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Irving Berlin, and a rare 1934 performance from George Gershwin. Steve Darnall, radio historian and host of a Chicago radio show dedicated to the Golden Age of radio, will host the program. A link will be provided here before the program begins.
