Description

Alicia Troesser is our artist on display at the Woodland Art Gallery from October 2 through November 30.  Her exhibit entitled "Exploring Layers: Past and Present" uses a variety of mediums and will engage your senses.  You can stop by to enjoy it during regular library hours.

A reception in Alicia's honor will be held on Thursday, October 10 from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm with light refreshments. Everyone is welcome.

Alicia Troesser grew up near Kansas City, Missouri, with her parents, two older sisters, and a younger brother. Alicia started drawing at a young age, and she greatly enjoyed art class in school. Her parents encouraged her interest in art when she was young and supported her desire to pursue an education and career in art. Since graduating from high school, she has lived in several different places to pursue her education and job opportunities. She has earned Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Fine Arts, and Master in Teaching degrees, as well as Gifted Education certification.

Growing up, Alicia’s family often visited the homes where each of her parents grew up in Missouri, and they went on road trips around the state and across the country almost every summer. She has also had the chance to travel to Mexico and Canada, but still has a great desire to travel overseas. Not only has Alicia been inspired by landscapes of the many different places she has traveled, but also by the local landscapes of areas in which she has lived. Much of her artwork incorporates the concept of changing ways of life that are prevalent in layers of landscape, appearing as marks and remnants on the land. The cycles of time, change, and memory that are seen in the layers of materials, imagery, and stitching in her work, allow her to explore conversations between the past and present. Her artwork has been displayed in exhibitions across the country, and she has been recognized for her textile art, photography, and local history research.

Over the course of her career, Alicia has held a variety of job positions, such as advertisement designer, online college course specialist, and historical society museum director. She has also had the privilege of being an educator for all age levels of students, including K-12 grades and college level, as well as community art classes for adults and children. Alicia now feels very fortunate to be the teacher for elementary art classes and the gifted program in the Linn school district. She loves teaching in the same community where she lives and greatly enjoys sharing her knowledge with students from the area.
