Gotta Find It? Let Us Help!
You may not know MRRL has access to much more than you can see on the shelves.
And that’s not all! We have ways to help you -- even when you’re not sure what you’re looking for.
It’s really satisfying when we can help point you to something you want -- and you can always ask us to help!
DIY’er? Use the library catalog, in the library or online.
Need help finding it? Ask our staff in person or on the phone. (That person at the reference desk is just waiting to spring into action!) If you can only remember a few details and want to try yourself, the New York Public Library lists several tools: Finding a Book When You’ve Forgotten Its Title. A movie? Try What is my movie? or IMDb Advanced Title Search (including television).
It says “on shelf” but it’s not there? It could be waiting to be shelved, on a display, located with the “staff picks,” or found with new or bestseller titles. Let us assist you.
Checked out? Place a hold. Look for a dark red check next to the word “Request” on the catalog screen.
Can’t remember if you’ve already read it? Here’s a neat trick: Log into your library account and click the clock icon next to Reading History. Then click Opt In. Voila! You will start tracking your reading history. (The default -- for privacy reasons -- is to not keep track until you choose to opt in.)
Want a digital title? Install the Libby by OverDrive and Hoopla apps and access our digital collection: electronic and audio titles, magazines, plus Hoopla has movies. We can help you get started!
We don’t carry it? Our library is in a network with other public and academic libraries called MOBIUS. On the catalog screen, you can see “Search MOBIUS” near that red check. Follow the prompts. We also take interlibrary loan requests or you can make a suggestion for us to purchase it.
Finally, what if you want to try something new? You could find one of the websites -- this site lists 28 -- designed to help you find your next book. There are also sites for television and movies.
But here’s something even better! Try the MRRL Book Box! Sign up online or pick up a sign up form in person. You tell us topics and authors you like, our staff picks out several books for you to try. It’s a great way to discover your next great read.
