Summer Reading Kicks Off for All Ages

Summer Reading Kicks Off for All Ages

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Missouri River Regional Library summer reading program is being simplified, and the reading log is moving online, via READsquared. Online registration and logging on READsquared is a simple process, and is accessible via web browser, Apple app, or Android app. In 2020, the summer reading program will run from June 1st to August 7th.

PreK Program (0-4 years) and Children Program (5-12 years): Both programs will be based on hours of reading. Each program will have a single prize level- a bag of themed items, and three books of the participant's choice from bins we will have at the library. Those that finish will be entered for a chance to win one of several age-appropriate raffle prizes. Names will be drawn and winners notified on Monday, August 10.

Teen Program 13-18 years: For every 10 hours of reading, teens will earn a prize - a book or summer reading-themed swag - and an entry into our end-of-program raffle for one of five Amazon gift cards.

Adult Program 19+: After reading/listening to four titles, adults will get to choose a free book.  Complete another four titles for a total of eight, and you will be entered into the prize drawings, in addition to earning a second book.  Reading with your family for three hours counts as one title, you may read with your family for a total of 6 hours that count as 2 books.  Reading our Capital Read title - Fast Girls: A Novel of the 1936 Women's Olympic Team by Elixe Hooper counts as two titles. Prizes will consist of gift certificates from local establishments.

The adult program will also feature a contest in Designing a Bookmark.  The winner will receive 50 copies of their design on bookmarks. The size for the bookmark is 2.25 X 7 inches. Your artwork must be original and two dimensional, but you can use any medium you want, from paint or stamps to computer designed.  Photography is also acceptable, as long as it is your own.  Only one entry per person.  You can enter your bookmark by sending a digital version to michaelieuq@mrrl.org - please include your name and phone number.  Or you can hand it in at the Information & Reference desk. Designs are due by Aug 1st.

Sign up beginning June 1, 2020. Paper logs will still be available at the library, but patrons are encouraged to use the online portal if possible.
