AUTHOR JAY ASHER TO SPEAK AT MISSOURI RIVER REGIONAL LIBRARY ON OCT. 1
573-634-6064 ext. 247
Missouri River Regional Library and the Jefferson City Public Schools will present bestselling teen fiction author Jay Asher at 7 p.m. on Oct. 1, at the MRRL Art Gallery. He will discuss his books, writing and answer questions. He will also be available to sign copies of his books. Earlier in the day, Asher will speak at Jefferson City High School.
Asher is the author of Thirteen Reasons Why, a New York Times bestseller which is now being made into a movie starring Selena Gomez, and co-author of The Future of Us. Kirkus Book Review called Thirteen Reasons Why, Asher’s first novel: “A brilliant and mesmerizing debut from a gifted new author.”
Prior to the publication of Thirteen Reasons, Asher said he submitted a total of 11 manuscripts to publishers and all were rejected.
Published in 2007, Thirteen Reasons Why, is made up of the transcripts of audiotapes that fictional 16-year-old Hannah Baker recorded before committing suicide, interspersed with the reactions of a high school classmate who listens to them. Each tape reveals an anecdote about another classmate whose actions the girl blames for her death.
“In this novel, Jay Asher reached both teen and adult readers,” said Angela Bayne, children’s department manager at Missouri River Regional Library. “We are looking forward to hearing Mr. Asher not only discuss his work, but to also share the struggles a writer goes through in order to get his book published.”
Asher’s visit is part of the Supporting Reading@Jefferson City Libraries, co-sponsored by the Missouri River Regional Library and the Jefferson City Public Schools.
