JEFFERSON CITY – A movie classic based on A. E. W. Mason’s 1902 adventure novel about the British Empire’s exploits in Africa, will be coming to the Missouri River Regional Library at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Because of licensing restrictions, we can’t give you the title, but we can tell you that this 1939 movie, directed by Zoltan Korda, is considered the finest of the many adaptations of Mason’s novel. Set at the end of the nineteenth century, the story follows the travails of a young officer accused of cowardice after he resigns his post on the eve of a major deployment to Khartoum; he must then fight to redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow officers and fiancée.
Since the movie will be shown after the library is closed, doors will be open at 6:45 p.m. and close at 7:05 p.m. Admission is free. Preregistration is required and can be done by contacting George Dillard at 634-6064, ext. 250.
