573-634-6064 ext. 247
JEFFERSON CITY – Osage County Library, Linn, and University of Missouri Extension are teaming up for a summer program aimed at helping children lead healthier lives. Healthy Foods – Fuel for your Dreams, is a free program funded in part by the USDA and SNAP.
Led by Jenifer Block, Osage County nutrition educator from MU Extension, the program is appropriate for children ages 2 through 12. There will be fun and interactive lessons about nutrition and fitness.
“We’ll talk about the importance of healthy foods, food safety and physical activity,” said Block.
Block said the program will include story time, simple physical activity and a small food tasting.
This program will be offered at 10:30 a.m. at the Osage County Library on the following dates:
• May 24
• June 28
• July 12
• July 26
Reservations are requested, but not required. For more information, or to make a reservation, contact Block at (573) 897-3648, ext. 4.
The media, the medical community, politicians, nutritionists and educators have cautioned for many years that nutrition, inactivity, and overweight/obesity among our nation’s youth are reaching dangerous levels.
“I educate children and adults in Osage County through the Family and Nutrition Program, which is a free service funded in part by USDA SNAP,” Block said.
